What causes DSG 02E clutch failure?

The most common cause is contaminated or degraded DSG fluid. The DQ250 uses a wet clutch immersed in fluid; when fluid condition deteriorates it accelerates clutch wear and can cause judder, hesitation, and eventual clutch slip. Regular DSG services every 40,000 miles are essential.

Is this the BorgWarner original clutch or an aftermarket copy?

This is a genuine BorgWarner clutch pack — BorgWarner was the OE supplier for the 02E DQ250 clutch. Part number 02E141029N identifies the correct Version N clutch for the DQ250 application.

Why are the cover plate and shims included?

Reusing the old cover plate and shims risks incorrect clutch clamping force and premature failure. Replacing these items at the same time as the clutch pack is best practice for a durable repair.

How do I know my gearbox is a DQ250?

The DQ250 is identified by the prefix 02E on the gearbox code, stamped on the side of the casing. It is a wet 6-speed DSG found in transversely-mounted VW Group applications from approximately 2003 onwards.

Can I fit this clutch pack without specialist equipment?

DSG clutch replacement requires the gearbox to be removed and the mechatronic unit to be adapted to the new clutch. This is a specialist job requiring DSG-specific tooling and software. Professional installation is strongly recommended.
