Why does gearbox oil need to be changed? +
Gearbox oil degrades over time through heat cycling, contamination from wear particles, and moisture ingress. Degraded oil loses its protective properties, leading to increased wear on gears, bearings and synchro rings. Regular oil changes extend gearbox life significantly.
How much oil does this gearbox take? +
Oil capacity varies by gearbox and vehicle. Check your vehicle workshop manual or contact our team with your gearbox code for accurate capacity figures. Overfilling is as damaging as underfilling — always measure carefully.
Is it important to use the correct grade of oil? +
Yes — gearbox oil grades are specified by the manufacturer for the exact viscosity and additive package required. Using the wrong grade can cause poor shift quality, increased wear and in DSG and DCT units, mechatronic damage. We only stock grades correct for each gearbox.
How often should gearbox oil be changed? +
For manual gearboxes, oil changes are typically recommended every 30,000 to 60,000 miles or every 4 to 6 years. DSG and DCT units generally require more frequent changes — typically every 40,000 miles or 4 years. Always follow manufacturer guidelines.
Can I change gearbox oil myself? +
