Haldex Oil

Haldex oil is a low-viscosity synthetic fluid made specifically for AWD couplings. Engine oil, gear oil and ATF are not substitutes — the coupling relies on the fluid's friction characteristics to modulate the clutch pack, and the wrong oil causes shudder, noise and premature clutch wear. Most manufacturers specify a coupling oil change on a time-and-mileage basis rather than at a major service interval, so it is commonly missed entirely on cars bought second-hand — check your own service schedule for the exact figure.
