6DCT450 MPS6 PowerShift External Filter – Ford & Volvo
This external filter is designed for the Ford PowerShift 6DCT450 (MPS6) 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Unlike the internal filter, the external filter sits outside the transmission casing and screens the ATF as it circulates between the gearbox and the external cooler circuit. Replacing the external filter as part of every fluid service ensures clean ATF flow and protects the gearbox from progressive contamination damage.

What is the difference between the internal and external PowerShift filters?
The internal filter (ET2017) sits inside the valve body and catches fine particles from the hydraulic circuit. The external filter (ET2310) is mounted outside the gearbox on the cooler circuit and catches larger contaminants before they can enter the transmission. Both should be replaced together during a full service.
How often should the external filter be replaced on the DCT450?
Ford recommends replacing the external filter at every ATF change — typically every 40,000 miles or more frequently if the vehicle is used in demanding conditions or has experienced gearbox shudder.
Does this filter fit both Gen 1 and Gen 2 DCT450?
Check the vehicle compatibility list for your specific model and year. The external filter location and specification may differ between generations — confirm your gearbox generation before ordering.
