M32 Gearbox Gen 1 & Gen 2 Third Gear 58 Tooth – Vauxhall / Alfa Romeo / Fiat

This is an M32 6-speed gearbox third gear with 58 teeth, Vauxhall OE part number 55567030. It is the third gear wheel for the generation 1 and generation 2 M32 gearbox (up to approximately 2015). This is one of the most common internal gear replacements during an M32 rebuild, where cascade damage from bearing failure has chipped or cracked the third gear. This part is not compatible with the Gen 3 M32 gearbox (2016 onwards).

How do I know if I have an M32 Gen 1 or Gen 2 gearbox?

Gen 1 and Gen 2 M32 gearboxes were fitted until approximately 2015. The gearbox code is stamped on the casing — if you send us your VIN we can confirm the generation for you.

Why does the third gear often need replacing during an M32 rebuild?

Third gear sits in the cascade path of M32 bearing failures. When the layshaft bearing disintegrates, fragments travel through the gearbox and frequently impact the third gear teeth, causing chipping or surface fractures even if the gear appears superficially intact.

Can this third gear be fitted without specialist tools?

No. M32 internal gear replacement requires full disassembly, correct shimming, and press-fitting of bearings. This is a workshop-only operation.

Is 55567030 a genuine OEM part?

Yes. Vauxhall OE part number 55567030 is an original equipment component.

Will this fit the Gen 3 M32 gearbox introduced in 2016?

No. Gen 3 M32 gearboxes use different internal gear designs. Using a Gen 1/2 gear in a Gen 3 box is not possible and would result in failure.
