What is the DQ500 / 0BH gearbox?

The Volkswagen Group DQ500 (internal code 0BH) is a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission designed for higher torque applications. It is found in higher-powered versions of the VW Golf, Audi Q3 RS, SEAT Alhambra, Skoda Octavia RS, and VW Sharan. The DQ500 is distinct from the more common DQ250 (02E) used in lower-torque models.

Why is this gasket a single-use item?

The gasket is compressed and deformed during initial torquing. This compression creates a tight, conforming seal. Once removed, the gasket has permanently deformed and cannot re-seal reliably. Always fit a new gasket whenever the cover plate is disturbed.

What happens if the mechatronic cover gasket leaks?

A failed mechatronic cover gasket allows DSG fluid to escape, reducing the oil level in the transmission. Low oil level leads to overheating, clutch wear, valve body pressure loss, and ultimately mechatronic unit failure. Address leaks promptly to prevent escalating repair costs.

Do I need to recode or adapt the mechatronic unit after this repair?

Replacing the cover plate gasket alone does not require mechatronic adaptation. However, if the mechatronic unit was also removed or disturbed during the repair, basic clutch adaptation should be performed using a compatible diagnostic tool after refilling with fresh DSG fluid.

What torque should I use when fitting the cover plate?

Torque settings for the 0BH mechatronic cover bolts are specified in the VW Group repair manual (ELSA). Always follow the manufacturer's torque specification — overtightening can distort the cover plate and the new gasket, leading to a repeat leak.
