Haldex Control Unit - Common Faults

Haldex Controller Water Damage/Corrosion:

• Very common
• Requires strip down of Haldex controller & repair or replacement of unit

Water ingress and corrosion damage on the Haldex Gen 2, Gen 3, Gen 4 & Gen 5 controllers are unfortunately very common. The damage to the circuit board can cause an array of fault codes, some of which can lead to a misdiagnosis of the pump and vice versa.

You may experience some, not necessarily all of the following fault codes relating to Haldex controller failure:

What does a Haldex control unit do?

The Haldex control unit is the electronic brain of the AWD coupling. It monitors wheel speed, throttle position and vehicle dynamics, then commands the hydraulic pump to pre-load or engage the rear axle clutch pack as required for traction and stability.

What are the signs of a failing Haldex control unit?

Common symptoms include AWD system fault codes (00003, 01324, 65535), loss of four-wheel drive, a warning light on the dashboard, and handling that feels unstable in low-grip conditions. Water damage and corrosion on the circuit board is the most frequent cause of failure on Gen 2-5 units.

Is this a genuine or aftermarket part?

The DS2015503 is a BorgWarner (S-TEC) unit — the same manufacturer that supplies the Haldex coupling to Audi, SEAT, Skoda and VW at the factory. It is a genuine OEM-grade replacement.

Does fitting a new control unit require coding?
