What is the mechatronic cover plate and why does it need replacing?

The mechatronic cover plate (also called the front cover) is a structural plate that closes the front of the mechatronic housing. Over time the gasket between the plate and housing can harden and leak, and the plate itself can warp or crack. Replacement restores the seal and prevents oil loss from the mechatronic unit.
