02U Gearbox 6th Speed Gear 31T – Audi / SEAT / Skoda / VW
This 6th speed gear with 31 teeth (OEM ref: 02U311165L) is the layshaft (input gear) component of the 6th gear pair for the 02U 6-speed manual transaxle used in Audi, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen vehicles. Works in conjunction with the 48T gear on the output shaft. A chipped or worn gear in 6th results in noise or popping out of top gear.

What is the difference between the 31T and 48T 6th gear?
The 31T gear mounts on the input/layshaft and meshes with the 48T output gear. Together they form the 6th gear ratio. Both must be in good condition for quiet, reliable top-gear operation.
How do I identify which 6th gear I need?
Count the teeth on your existing gear or cross-reference the OEM part number (02U311165L for 31T). The 31T is the smaller layshaft gear; the 48T (ET2576) is the larger output gear.
What are the symptoms of a worn 6th gear?
Grinding or whining noise in 6th, difficulty engaging 6th, or the gearbox jumping out of 6th under load are typical signs of worn gear teeth.
Can I replace the 6th gear without rebuilding the whole gearbox?
