What does the 020 bolt kit contain?

When would I need to replace the gearbox bolts?
Gearbox bolts are typically replaced during a rebuild to ensure correct torque can be achieved. Over time, bolts can be stretched, corroded or damaged during previous disassembly. Using fresh fasteners is best practice in any full rebuild.
Is the 020 gearbox the same as the 4-speed 020?
The VW 020 designation was used for both 4-speed and 5-speed variants. This kit is specifically for the 5-speed 020 gearbox used from the Golf Mk2 era onward.
Will this fit my specific Golf variant?
The 020 5-speed was used across a wide Golf range from Mk1 through Mk3. If you are unsure whether your specific variant uses the 020 box, please provide your registration number or VIN.
Can I use standard bolts as a substitute?
No — gearbox casing bolts are typically specific grades (typically 8.8 or higher). Using incorrect fasteners risks casing damage or fastener failure under load. Always use the correct specification bolts.
