This updated reverse gear synchromesh ring is a genuine OEM replacement for the M32 6-speed manual gearbox. It is a revised design (update over the original item) used to address reverse gear engagement problems. OE part numbers: 55566681 (updated), 55503135 (original). Fits Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Vauxhall/Opel and Chevrolet M32 gearboxes.

What is the difference between 55566681 and 55503135?

55566681 is the updated (revised) reverse synchromesh ring that supersedes the original 55503135. The newer part incorporates design improvements and is the recommended replacement for both variants.

What symptoms indicate a worn reverse synchromesh?

Difficulty selecting reverse, crunching when engaging reverse gear, or popping out of reverse under load are typical signs of a worn reverse synchromesh ring.

Can I fit this without a full gearbox strip?

The synchromesh ring is inside the gearbox, so a full disassembly is required. We recommend inspecting all synchro components while the gearbox is open to complete a thorough rebuild.

Is this suitable for Gen 1 and Gen 2 M32 gearboxes?
