2) Worn dual-mass flywheel (the fault that gets blamed on the clutch)
One of the major causes of trouble on these transmissions is a worn dual-mass flywheel. Its job is to damp out the engine's torque pulses before they reach the clutch and gearbox — and when its internal damping wears out, that protection is gone. The result is rattling or banging noises and jerky behaviour pulling away and on gear changes. Because the symptoms feel clutch-like, this is routinely misdiagnosed as a clutch fault — but it's the flywheel no longer reducing the torque through its damping design. When the unit is apart, the flywheel should be checked for excessive lateral movement, damaged or broken damper springs, and worn drive teeth — and a worn DMF should be replaced with the clutch, or the new clutch inherits the same punishment.
3) Clutch actuator module faults
The electromechanical clutch actuator can fail electrically or go out of adjustment, causing no-drive, harsh engagement, failed relearns, or diagnostic trouble codes. Proper repair includes rod-length setting and a clutch relearn; incorrect setup can quickly damage a new clutch.
