Ford Transit MT-75 5th Speed Gear 26T – 1058870

This 5th speed gear with 26 teeth (OEM ref: 1058870) is a direct replacement for the Ford MT-75 5-speed manual gearbox. Used in Ford Transit 2.4 DI, TDI and TDCi variants from 2000 to 2006, the MT-75 was also fitted across Ford Escort, Sierra, LDV Convoy, and Mazda BT-50 / Ranger. A worn or damaged 5th gear causes the gearbox to jump out of top gear or produce grinding noises in 5th.

What is the MT-75 gearbox?

The MT-75 is a 5-speed manual transmission developed by Ford and widely used in Transit vans, Escort, Sierra and several Mazda/LDV commercial vehicles from the late 1980s through to the mid-2000s.

How do I know if this is the right 5th gear for my gearbox?

Verify your gearbox code is MT-75 and count the teeth on the existing gear or use the OEM reference 1058870. The 26T gear is the standard 5th speed gear for the MT-75.

What are the symptoms of a worn MT-75 5th gear?

The gearbox jumping out of 5th under load or when lifting off, excessive whining in 5th gear, or chips/damage visible on gear teeth during inspection.

Does this fit the MT-82 gearbox used in newer Transits?

No — the MT-82 (used from 2011 onwards) is a different unit. This part is specific to the MT-75 only.
