What is an input shaft seal and when does it need replacing?
The input shaft seal prevents gear oil from leaking out of the gearbox along the input shaft where it enters the bellhousing. It needs replacing when oil is found seeping from the front of the gearbox, particularly around the clutch housing area.
Does a leaking input shaft seal damage the clutch?
Yes. Gear oil contamination on the clutch friction disc causes the clutch to slip and fail prematurely. Replacing the input shaft seal promptly when a leak is detected can prevent a much more costly clutch replacement.
Is the Kia 4313439011 the same as the Hyundai 43134-39011?
Yes — 4313439011 and 43134-39011 are the same part number formatted differently. Hyundai and Kia use the same seal in this application, sharing the OE part number.
Can I replace this seal without removing the gearbox?
On most applications this seal can be replaced in situ with the driveshaft removed. Remove the driveshaft, extract the old seal, and press the new seal in with the correct size driver before reinstalling the shaft.
