This genuine Mitsubishi repair kit was released to resolve the well-documented 3rd gear crunching and popping-out-of-gear fault on the Mitsubishi L200 and Fiat Fullback pickup trucks. What causes the 3rd gear crunch on the Mitsubishi L200?
The fault is caused by wear on the 3rd gear synchro hub and ring, which prevents smooth synchronisation of shaft speeds during gear engagement. The result is a crunching feel or resistance when selecting 3rd gear, particularly on downshifts. Mitsubishi issued this repair kit as the recommended fix.
Can I just replace the synchro ring, or do I need the full kit?
Mitsubishi’s recommended repair is to replace all components in this kit together. The gear, synchro hub, hub ring, shift fork and associated hardware are interdependent; fitting partial components risks a repeat failure.
