How do I know if my BMW has the Type 168 differential?
The Type 168 rear differential housing has 7 bolts securing the rear cover to the body. Count the bolts on your diff cover — if there are 7, this is the correct bearing set.
What is the difference between the F-236120.03 and F-239495 bearings?
They are the small and large pinion taper roller bearings in the same differential. Both must be replaced together during a pinion rebuild for correct preload and longevity.
Are these OEM or aftermarket?
These are genuine Schaeffler (FAG) bearings — the same manufacturer that supplies BMW's production line. They are OEM-equivalent quality made in Germany.
Do I need any other parts for a full diff rebuild?
A full rebuild will also require pinion and crown wheel seals, shims, and a crush sleeve. Contact us with your differential code and we can advise on the full parts list.
