About RENAULT EDC DC4/DW5/DW6
This is a rename of the Powershift semi-automatic transmission system by Renault which was a joint collaboration between, Ford, LUK & Magna PT (Getrag).
Sometimes referred too as the EDC gearbox (Efficient Dual Clutch). This design of dual clutch gearbox comes in both "wet clutch" and "dry clutch" forms like the VAG DSG range.
The wet clutch 6DCT450 DW6 systems are fitted to higher torque models. The dry clutch 6DCT250 DW5 systems are fitted on smaller engined models like the Clio.
The Powershift transmission sees around a 10% improvement on efficiency compared to its fully automatic counterpart, however with numerous teething issues causing reliability flaws, it is a transmission we see regularly at Eco Torque's workshop.

DC4 DW5 DW6 FAULTS
Both versions of the gearbox range has it's own particular set of faults, some of which are more common than others.
Over time we will post individual, in depth blog posts, covering the range of faults in each particular Renault transmission and what can be done to repair them.
